North Carolina Here We Come

We are headed to North Carolina For Thanksgiving!  Can you believe it?  A few more days and it will be Thanksgiving.  Thanksgiving is such a good holiday but it seems that it is being taken forgranted.  Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks.  Maybe that is something that is being left in the past like a lot of other things; giving thanks.  Just a little rambling there.

We just can't wait to see our daughter and her family.  The grandkids are so cute.  They just love us.  If they knew us better they might not love us as much.  But it just tickles me to death that they think we are special.  They are special to us.

North Carolina is pretty different from where we live.  We live in the lower states.  The cold weather is a break for us.  Huddling around the fireplace is really nice.

All the people we have met from there are really cordial.  They make us feel at home.

Are you doing anything special at Thanksgiving this year?  If so, leave a comment and let us know.  Take care.

Retirement Life Is Good.

Hi my friends,

I thought this video of a retired police dog was cute.

I hope you are having a really good day.  I thought I would give you a run down of a normal day in my life.
My life doesn't seem to be a very exciting one.  Some days are exciting to me.  Some days are precious.  Some days I'd like to just stay in bed.
My husband and I are both over 60.  If you are over sixty you probably know how your body doesn't move as fast as it used to.  But that is ok.  You are probably still able to do what needs to be done and feel satisfied that you did your best at the end of the day.
I feel that way most of the time.  Some days I feel overwhelmed.  My thoughts seem scattered and my memory goes on vacation.  It can be so frustrating.  I used to be able to help my husband remember where things were and when his appointments were.  Now it is every man for himself.
Nights can be frustrating too.  For as long as I remember I have had sleep problems.  Now my husband does too.  I either wake him up or he wakes me up.  After awhile you learn to take cat naps during the day.
Whenever we have some energy we both know we better get busy doing something before our energy gets gone.  It has a way of coming and going and not staying long.  It doesn't seem like I get much done throughout the day.  I have started writing down the things I do each day so that I can see that I have actually done something.
I am a quiet person and my husband is the opposite.  There are times when we get on each others nerves.  Does that sound familiar?  I go in the laundry room to calm down and have some quiet.  I get some of the washing done at the same time.  It works out pretty good that way.
I live in the south in a small town.  I love it here.  It is quiet most of the time.  I live in a little corner of our neighborhood.  I know most people would consider me anything but rich.  But my idea of rich is having peace and my family being happy and safe.

Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.
-Mother Teresa

I found this quote on the blog:  Intentional By Grace.

I read it and it helped me see things a little clearer.  I actually do have gifts.  I need to use those gifts wisely.  I need to take care of what has been given me to the best of my ability.

My husband is a gift.  I don't always remember that.  My service to him and the way I take care of him is very important.  It is ultimately my service to God.  Is the way I take care of my husband pleasing to God?  Am I doing my best?

Am I doing my best taking care of the home God gave me?  Do I appreciate it or do I feel it is a burden?

So many areas of my life are taken for granted.  How can I improve on my care for my gifts that I have?  The gifts God has given me.

Have a great day and look around you and see the good gifts that you have.

How Important Are Our Words

Listen to your words.  What are they saying about you?  What inflections are you using?  What expressions come out of your mouth?

Our words are powerful.  We may not realize it but they are.  Especially with those that are around us the most.  There is a tendency to let go and say things without thinking about them.  We feel they know us and it is ok.

Make a commitment to think before you speak today.  Notice how your words affect others.  You may be surprised at the power you have.

Have a great day!

You Can Control Your Feelings

Do you feel as though you can't control your feelings? Are your thoughts racing back and forth?  You feel like you just can't cope with all that is going on?  I know how that is.  I go through this a lot.

When I make myself stop and think for a minute I realize that I am in charge of my thoughts.  I can change the subject.  Or make myself sit and relax for a minute.  Then I take a deep breath and get ahold of myself.  It is not always easy.  I have not always been able to do that.  There are still times when I forget.

Practice this technique when you feel the stress coming on and you feel that you don't know where to turn.  Just stop.  Stop.  Then take a deep breath and talk in a kind positive voice to yourself.  Then go ahead and do what you need to do.  You may not get it right every time but keep doing this.  You will see that it helps and that you are stronger than you think.

Have a great day!

Hello Everyone,
Have you been trying to loose weight and feel better?  Eating fruit can help.  I have a hard time eating fruit.  I don't know why.  I have just gotten out of the habit of eating it.  But on days that I do remember to eat it I feel better about myself.  I know that I have done something good for my body.
Eating fruit gives you fiber.  Your body needs that fiber to help clean out your system.  It helps to move all that stuff out of your digestive system.  That will help you feel better.  You won't have that stuffed feeling or that blah feeling--at least not as bad.

Eating fruit will give your body vitamins and minerals.  Eating a variety of fruit will give you the needed vitamins C, B, A and all the others.  Plus trace minerals to keep your body healthy.  Bananas have lots of potassium, citrus has vitamin C.  Berries are lower in calories than other fruits.  You can load up on these to control your appetite.

A fruit of the Spirit is love.  Treat your body with love.  Speak loving words to yourself.  If you make a bad choice don't beat yourself up.  Treat yourself as the worthy person you are.  God loves you.

Hello
I found this video on youtube and the title intrigued me.  It is about being wounded and forgiveness.  It was just what I needed to hear.  It gives such a good explanation on forgiveness and why it is so important.

Are You Trying To Do The Right Thing?

Things are not always going to go the way you want them to. You are trying to do the right thing. You are taking the right steps. But it is hard. Your actions are misunderstood. Stop for a moment and ask yourself if this is what has to be done. Is this what God would want you to do. If it is, then keep going. There is hope. There is light just around the corner. Don't give up hope.

Do You Want To Be Loved?

God wants to be loved. Don't you? Don't you want to be loved? God is waiting and longing for us to show Him love.

To be able to love yourself and others more, take time to love God. How do you show God love? Read His love letter to you. The Bible is God's love letter to the world. It will help you to love God more. When you love God more you will love yourself and others more.

Take time to talk to Him: you talk to God through prayer. Praying is telling God you love Him and appreciate Him. Praise Him for all He has done for you. Tell Him what's going on in your life. He wants to hear it from you.

When you allow God to speak to you from His Word and then speak to Him through prayer you will be on your way to a more loving heart.

Rescue a Trafficked Woman

I found this article and I thought I would share it with you.  I have been hearing about women and children being stolen and trafficked.  Please pray for these victims.
Rescue a Trafficked Woman

Human trafficking. These two words define the lives of hundreds and thousands and yes, even millions of young women and children, forced into lives of slavery and hopelessness. They are stolen from their homes, or sold by adults they once trusted, taken captive, sold like animals, some in cages. Many face futures chained to beds of sexual slavery, far from any hope of ever being freed.

The buying and selling of souls has been happening for millennia, but never before has the true extent of this evil been so seared upon the American consciousness.

Though slavery was outlawed and supposedly eradicated long ago, aware individuals know it has never left us, only changed its appearance to again slide far enough under the radar to avoid attention.

Only now the flashlight of the world is shining upon itthe evil of human trafficking that is happening not just in third world countries around the world, but here in America as well.

Becky McDonald decided to do something about it. Though she grew up in a traditional missionary setting in Bangladesh, the word traditional has never defined her outlook on ministry.

Ever since age fourteen, when a young girl was brought into her life, the girl's vocal chords permanently damaged from acid poured down her throat by the men who had tried to rape her, Becky has been a warrior on behalf of the helpless and oppressed.

Since starting Women At Risk International in 2006, Becky has fought tirelessly to free the enslaved, wrapping arms of love and protection around those most in need, rescuing them, and restoring their dignity and hope.

WAR International now has projects in 14 countriessafe houses in Thailand and India where rescued women create quality jewelry to sell. Cake decorating in Nepal, which provides income to continue the ministry of rescuing trafficked women. Bridal rental shops in Latin America, that not only provide funds for ministry, but a creative means of outreach as well.

And here in America, Becky works with homeland security to rescue our own.

Though the majority of Americans once turned a blind eye from those enslaved, Americans today care deeply about ending the atrocities of human bondage. They care and they want to help.

But how can one person make a difference when the need is so vast?

By shopping, of course! As odd as that may sound, WAR International continues and thrives because women all over America are buying the beautiful jewelry, purses, scarves and clothing created by rescued women all over the world. Many churches and individuals are hosting WAR parties, where groups can come and shop together for a great cause. By buying WAR's products, the rescued women are restored to lives of dignity as they see that their work is sustainable.

Money given to WAR might provide for a girl stolen from Nepal to escape the bonds of forced prostitution. It may provide for a former street worker, now dying of AIDS, to give the rest of her life to fulfilling ministry. It may help the emergency fund, which is specifically for those urgent, unexpected needs, like rescuing a baby going to be sold that very night.

Every once in awhile, the moment comes when we have the chance to change someone else's whole lifegiving them hope, and the Gospel of hopea change that will last for eternity.

That time is now.

What will you do? How will you change the world?

Make a Quiet Time For Yourself

Everyone needs some alone time.  It may be hard to carve that time out but it will be a blessing to you and others.

I don't know about you, but I feel like I lost this past Christmas season.  There were so many things to do.  There were cards to fill out and send.  Phone calls needed to be made.  Presents needed to be bought and so on.  All these things were good things that I wanted to do so others would know I cared.  They were good things.  I think next year I will start a little early.  That way I can carve out some solitutde for myself.  (I should have planned that for this year!)

You and your family all need some time to slow down.

Why is Forgiveness So Important?

If you are having problems forgiving someone, go to Why is Forgiveness So Important?  This article will help you to understand what forgiveness is and how it affects your life. We all make mistakes.  If you can see your own mistakes and realize that you did not purposely do them, it might help you to see that others do the same thing.  They do things without thinking.  They may not even realize what they have done.  The Lord Bless.
