"Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children: And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour."
Have you ever noticed how little children mimic their parents? A little boy watches his dad work with tools so he picks up a tool and tries to do the same thing. Or maybe a little girl watches her mom put on her makeup so she tries to put it on too. They are so cute when they do these things.
We are to be followers of God or to copy or mimic what He does. We are to walk in love as He loves us. Christ gave Himself for us. He sacrificed Himself so that we could be His children. God was pleased with this. It was a sweetwmelling savour to Him.
I believe God is telling us in this verse to have this same loving attitude that Christ had and still has for us. He wants us to die to self. To do things for others even when we don't feel like it or when we feel that we don't have the time to help someone else. Every act of love shown to another person shows God that we love Him. It will be a sweetsmelling savour to Him.
Dear Father,
Help us to become followers of you. Let our lives be so lived that they become a sweet aroma to You. May our acts of kindness and love lead someone to You.
