Childhood Memories

I have some great childhood memories.  I grew up in the fifties and sixties.  My parents loved each other and loved us kids.  They did everything they could to give us a happy childhood.  They were always doing things with us.  Dad liked building things for Mom.  He was always building things and working around the house to make it a nicer place to live.  I wrote a lens about our home here

I guess we were blessed to have good parents and a happy childhood.

I Had The Best Father

I believe I had the best father in the world.  He was so in love with Mom.  He loved us kids.  There were four of us.  He seldom raised his voice at any of us even though I am sure it took great restraint.  I have so many good memories of him.  On his days off we would go to the lake to swim and have picnics.  Sometimes we would go the outdoor drive-in to see a movie.  That was rare though because it was hard to come by money to spare.

Dad never complained about how hard he worked or how expensive things were.  He just did all kinds of things for us and with us.  He left a legacy of love for his kids and grandkids.
My Dad is gone now.  I miss him everyday.

Raising Grown Kids

My mom used to say it was harder to raise grown kids than little ones.  I did not understand it back then but I do now.  Your grown kids can tear your heart out or make you pull your hair out.  Or both.  It seemed so difficult when my children were small to think that this was true but now I can see what she was saying.

My heart feels like it is breaking.  I want to laugh and cry at the same time.  I only trust that God will take care of the problems we are having.  It will be in his timing.  I can only hold on and keep on going.  It is hard to be this open.  I just hope this helps someone else that is going through something similar.  You are not alone.

Fierce Beauty by Kim Meeder Review

This book written by Kim Meeder speaks to women about true beauty.  True beauty comes from the inside.  It is not our looks.  We are constantly hearing the message that we are not good enough.  We need to be prettier, skinnier or wear certain types of clothing.
The author has woven her love of nature and animals into stories that help us understand what really matters in our lives.  One quote from the book is "We often chase after the world's definition of beauty and value and reject genuine worth offered by our Lord will we live in fantasies of our own creations or choose God's best purpose for our lives."
I truly enjoyed reading this book.  I needed to be reminded of what is important in this life.  I was given the book to read and review by blogging fofr books.  I hope to be able to read Kim Meeder's other books.
