Love Suffers Long

"Charity suffereth long, and is kind..." This is the first part of verse four in 1 Corrinthians. In this verse the Lord is telling us that love is patient and kind. It is not a selfish love. This love is not bestowed on someone because they deserve it. It is given because God says to do it. It is not always easy to love someone. Especially if they hurt you over and over again. It is a choice you decide to make.

It tells us to be kind. Respond in kindness. Kindness will reap great benefits. The person you are kind to may not appreciate it. But God sees every act of kindness and will reward you for it. The more we love the more we are like the Savior.

1 Corrinthians 13: 4-8a, The Love Chapter of the Bible

Love

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails...

This week is a good week to take a look at the Love Chapter in the Bible. Of course, all the Bible verses tell us about God's Love. These verses describe what love is. God tells us to love others. This section of scripture tells us how to do that. I hope that you can study these verses with me this week.

Thanksgiving Day Prayer

May the Lord bless you on this Thanksgiving Day, 2009.

A Thanksgiving Day Prayer

Lord, so often times, as any other day
When we sit down to our meal and pray

We hurry along and make fast the blessing
Thanks, amen. Now please pass the dressing

We're slaves to the olfactory overload
We must rush our prayer before the food gets cold

But Lord, I'd like to take a few minute more
To really give thanks to what I'm thankful for

For my family, my health, a nice soft bed
My friends, my freedom, a roof over my head

I'm thankful right now to be surrounded by those
Whose lives touch me more than they'll ever possibly know

Thankful Lord, that You've blessed me beyond measure
Thankful that in my heart lives life's greatest treasure

That You, dear Jesus, reside in that place
And I'm ever so grateful for Your unending grace

So please, heavenly Father, bless this food You've provided
And bless each and every person invited.

Brown Sugar Brownies

This is a delicious recipe. It has pecans in it and actually tastes like pecan pie. My family loves it.

Brown Sugar Brownies
1/2 Cup butter
2 Cups Dark brown sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 Cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
1 Cup pecans

  1. Cream softened butter, add sugar and eggs.
  2. Mix thoroughly. Sift flour, measure, add baking powder and stir to mix baking powder and flour.
  3. Add to first mixture and blend.
  4. Add vanilla and nut meats. Pour into a well greased lasagne size pan. (I don't know what size that is but it says in the recipe to use a square pan but the square pan is too small.)
  5. Bake in a 325 degree oven for about 40 minutes. Cool in pan.
  6. Cut into squares.

Black Friday

Black Friday. When people think of Black Friday they think of shopping. They think of that fantastic buy for their loved one. The one item they would not usually be able to afford. I understand because I am on a budget myself.

But when I think of Black Friday, I don't think of shopping till I drop. I think about the people that were hurt during the sales at Black Friday last year and the years before. I think of those people that got trampled by other shoppers and died. Maybe I am strange but I believe Americans should stand up and say "No More Black Friday Shopping". Someone dying so that a shopper can get that gift they think is so important does not make since to me.

Maybe we all should re-think what Christmas is all about. What do you think?

Noah's Ark being Rebuilt

This is a video I found that I just had to share with everybody. It starts with a commercial but that doesn't last long. A man decided to rebuild the ark and tell people about God with it. I think that is really great!

My Favorite Book is Every Day Greatness by Stephen R. Covey

Every Day Greatness by Stephen R. Covey is one of my favorite books. It just is so encouraging to read. It is a collection of inspirational stories taken from the Reader's Digest. Some are from years ago and some are more recent. Also in the book are quotes and sayings that gets the point of the story across. The book is written in sections. One is about courage, another is about self sacrifice and so on.

One quote that I especially like is: "No man is so poor as to have nothing worth giving: as well might the mountain streamlets say they have nothing to give the sea because they are not rivers. Give what you have. To someone it may be better than you dare think." Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Everyone has good qualities in them. Everyone can do something. Every life is important.

The Lord's Supper

This evening we had the Lord's Supper and two baptisms. It was such a touching service. As I sat there listening to the Pastor's words, telling us to examine ourselves and to get our hearts right, I knew there were things going on in my heart I needed to get right. I have been dealing with unforgiveness and some bad feelings towards others. I have a struggle with this. I feel that the Lord was saying that if I am concentrating on unforgiveness and hurt and resentment, I cannot concentrate on drawing close to Him. I cannot concentrate on praying for others.

"For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged" I Corinthians 11:31

Buy American

I thought I would share an email I got the other day. I think when you read it you will be amazed.

One Light Bulb at a Time
A physics teacher in high school, once
told the
students that while one grasshoper on the
railroad tracks wouldn't
slow a train very much, a billion of them would.
With that
thought in mind, read the following, obviously
written by a good
American.
Good idea . . .. one light bulb at a
time.
Check this out. I can verify this because I
was in Lowes the
other day for some reason and just for the heck of
it I was looking at
the hose attachments. They were all made in China.
The next day I was in Ace Hardware and
just for the heck of
it I checked the hose attachments there. They were
made in USA . Start
looking.

In our current economic situation, every little thing we
buy or do affects someone else - even their job.
So, after reading this
email, I think this lady is on the right track.
Let's get behind
her!

My grandson likes Hershey's candy. I noticed, though,
that
it is marked made in Mexico now. I do
not buy it any more.
My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico
now. I have
switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on
everything.

This past weekend I was at Kroger. I needed 60 W
light
bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets. I was in the
light
bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I
normally buy was an
off brand labeled, "Everyday
Value". I picked up both types of bulbs
and compared the stats -
they were the same except for the price. The GE
bulbs were more money
than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that
surprised me the most
was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the
Everyday Value brand was
made in - get ready for this - the USA in a company
in Cleveland,
Ohio.
So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you
use every day that are made right here.

So on to another aisle -
Bounce Dryer Sheets . .. . yep, you guessed it,
Bounce cost more money
and is made in Canada. The Everyday Value brand was
less money and MADE
IN THE USA! I did laundry yesterday and the
dryer sheets performed
just like the Bounce Free I have been using for
years and at almost half
the price!

My challenge to you is to start reading the labels
when you shop for everyday things and see what you
can find that is made
in the USA - the job you save may be your own or
your
neighbors!

If you accept the challenge, start buying
American, one light bulb at
a time! Stop buying from overseas
companies!

Kids in the Christmas Kitchen by Cheryl Wright

Hello
I talked about an ebook by Cheryl Wright the other day and I am putting the information back up today. Check it out.

"Kids in the Christmas Kitchen-- Fun and Easy Cooking For Kids" by Cheryl Wright is an ebook filled with Christmas recipes that children can make fairly easily. It has lovely photos of her grandchildren. There are photos showing the children making cookies and other tasty treats in the kitchen.

There are instructions on the best way to prepare to bake goodies with the kids so there is the least amount of mess and fuss. She gives clear steps to follow for each recipe.

There are different types of Christmas recipes, some are no-cook and some go into the oven. I tried some of each. The recipes turned out nice and were easy to make. The Rum Balls were my favorite and my husband's also. He helped taste the cookies.

The author is from Australia so it was written in a slightly different language than what I was used to, like biscuits instead of cookies. Some of the measurements are different also but there is an explanation at the end of the book. It is still very easy to understand.

There is a total of 35 pages in the book. I enjoyed making the cookies and reviewing the book.

Her website can be found here.

Glory, Honor, and Peace

"But glory, honor and peace to every man that worketh good, to the jew first, and also to the gentiles." Romans 2:10

Do you want glory, honor and peace? Do you wonder how to get it? The Lord says to work things that are good. Sometimes you do the right thing and do your best but it does not seem like you are receiving glory, honor and peace. Just hang in there. God will work it in you. It may not come immediately but it will come.

We all have enemies that seem to enjoy making our lives miserable. I don't know why that is. But keep doing good. Keep on doing what is right. Keep doing your best. Everything will be alright. The Lord is looking out for you.

Anxiety In America

In America, anxiety seems to be the norm. The economic downturn has caused Americans to worry about job losses, and the loss of their savings. People are trying to cope with insomnia, stomach upsets and irritability. This just seems to make matters worse.

We tend to forget how this affects our children. We get stressed out and look for ways to handle hard times. When adults have anxiety, it is usually because of loss of control in some area of our lives. We begin to feel angry.

Before when our children did little things to irritate us, like not cleaning their room, or turning the tv on too loud, we would give a gentle reprimand. But in stress filled times we may snap and yell at the child. This can cause anxieties in our children.

There are several symptoms that show up in a child that feels anxiety: headaches, stomach problems, poor grades, or acting out.

To preserve your family, talk to a counselor or pastor or friend. This can give you relief from the feeling of stress and helps to see things clearer. Be honest with your children. Let them know that things are hard for everybody right now. Give them things they can do to help the family. They can make their own lunch or mow the lawn. Or do what they are capable of doing to help the situation. If everyone shares in helping, it will alleviate some of the stress on everyone.

We will all get through this. The most important thing is to remember that we are not alone. God loves us and will take care of us.
