Thinking on God's Truth

In the book, "Loving God with All Your Mind" by Elizabeth George, it talks about thinking on God's truth. If we think on verses from the Bible and meditate on them, we have a way to overcome the thoughts that Satan puts in our minds. This is a powerful tool to overcoming depression, fear, etc.

The first chapter in the book talks about the verse, "Whatsoever things are true...think on these things." Phillipians 4:8 If we spend time thinking on things that are true (or real), we are not thinking on things that are untrue. Like when we think God can't forgive us. That is untrue. God forgives us. Or maybe we think that God doesn't know what we are going through. That is a lie. God knows what we are going through and he cares. It does not always seem that way. But if we think on the truth, it will help us see the lies.

I am trying to remember this verse and practice thinking on it. It is very hard for me. I have a hard time controlling my thoughts. It is hard work. But I will let you know how it is going.

Changing Your Thoughts

I have been hearing a lot lately about how important it is to control your thoughts and to think good and positive thoughts. I have heard Dr. Oz talking about it on TV. I hear about it at church. I have read several articles about it.

I think one of the best books I have found on this topic is by Elizabeth George, called "Loving God with All Your Mind". She says that when our thoughts are overwhelmed by fear or worry or depression, it is difficult to think on truth and joy.

I am reading through her book and trying to apply some of the things she says. I would like to share my thoughts and passages from the book with you for the next few posts. I am hoping it will help someone else and also my self.

Please join me in this study. There is a link to her book on the left of my site.

When You Lose a Loved One

It is so difficult when you lose a loved one. I wish I knew how to help other people with this loss.

I lost my Dad a year ago to Alzeimers Disease. I helped to take care of him for three or four years. He just gradually got worse. We took long walks and went to Walmart's. That was his favorite things to do in those last years. It finally got to the place where he could not get out anymore. I stayed at his little apartment with him part time during the week. Others in the family stayed on weekends and at other times. We hired a nurse for the evenings.

The day came when we knew he needed to go to a nursing home. It was the hardest decision we ever made. But we felt it was the right one.

Dad was there about a year or so when he passed away. I miss him everyday. I have dreams about him and think about him all the time.

Make the most of the time you have with your loved ones. You never know what tomorrow will bring.

Show Love This Week

"Now these three things remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthians 13:13

"Let all that you do be done with love." I corinthians 16:14

He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter seperateth very friends." Proverbs 17:9

Why is it so hard to do things with love? It sometimes seems so difficult. If we do things in love we will have less problems. We will still have problems but not as many. Sometimes when you show someone love you will not get love back. And sometimes you know it in advance. But if we do what the Lord asks of us, we will show that person love anyway. I speak from experience. I know how hard it is to be loving to someone that acts the opposite of love. Especially if this is a family member. Can you think of a time today that would have been better if you had shown love to someone? I can. I had to ask God to forgive me for not showing someone love today. I was caught up in what I wanted and forgot what the other person needed.

Show love to someone tomorrow and see what happens.

April is Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month. Autism was once considered rare but now it is estimated to affect one in 150 children. A child is diagnosed every 20 miutes with autism.

Autism occurs more in boys than girls. It occurs in children of all racial and social backgrounds. Symptoms can be detected by 18 months or earlier. As soon as the parents suspects their child has autism they should discuss it with their doctor. There is more that can be done to help a child if he or she is diagnosed early.

Some symptoms in infants are: does not make eye contact, does not make baby talk, does not seem interested in others, does not look at faces. These are just a few of the symptoms.

Walk Your Worries Away!

Do you get worried and upset? Are you unable to think straight because of it?

A psychologist by the name of Henry C. Link would often tell his clients to walk around the block three times before coming in for their appointments. He said that we have an upper and a lower brain. The upper part of the brain is used to worry and fret. When you walk you use the lower part of your brain. While you are walking you give the upper part of the brain a rest and you are not worrying as much.

Give it a try. Let me know what happens ok?

The Four P's to Success

In a book by Norman Vincent Peale he has a list he calls the Four P's to Success. These four points will help you focus on whatever you are trying to accomplish.

  1. Plan Purposefully.
  2. Prepare Prayerfully.
  3. Proceed positively.
  4. Pursue persistently.

Sometimes we get off track and forget what our goals are. Write these four points down and look at them each day. It just might help you accomplish your dreams!

Prayer for the Needy

A Special Prayer for the Needy

Father,
we ask you to bless our friends, relatives and those that we deeply care for.
Show them a new revelation of your love and power.
Holy Spirit we ask you to minister to their needs.
Where there is pain, give them peace and mercy.
Where there is self-doubt, release a renewed confidence through your grace.
Where there is need, we ask you to fulfill their needs.
Bless their homes, families, finances, there goings and their comings.
We ask these things in the precious name of JESUS.
Amen

Renewing Your Spirit

"Be renewed in the spirit of your mind."{Ephesians 4:23)

Life seems to get us down sometimes. It can be the little things. Sometimes it is the traumatic things that happen to us. It just seems to add up in our hearts. To get through the day can take all of our energy.

I think if we can see things through a child's eyes it might help us to see things differently. It may give us a new outlook. If we love God and love people, I believe we will love life. We may get tired and unable to cope but God will lift us up. If we think about His love for us then we can keep going.

Laugh a little!

How to Have a Good Day

Do you wish you could have a good day every day? Oh, there will always be aggravations and interuptions but wouldn't it be nice to get through each thing and not get all upset?

One thing that determines how your day will be is the attitude you have when you get up in the morning. Try to give yourself five minutes in the morning. In that five minutes don't worry about the day or allow yourself to feel rushed. Just take five minutes to think of each person you are going to meet, and pray for that person.

Then commit your day to God and get going!
